Registration now runs through Motus
Since May 2026, FMCSA registration runs through its new system, Motus, which replaced the old Unified Registration System and FMCSA Portal. You sign in with a Login.gov account and verify your identity, then manage your USDOT number and authority from one dashboard. We walk you through the new process step by step.
What's included
- USDOT number and operating authority application in Motus
- BOC-3 process agent filing, arranged through a filing agent
- UCR registration for the current year
- Guidance on insurance minimums and getting your insurer to file proof with FMCSA
- State permits guidance for the states you plan to run
- A checklist for drug and alcohol testing, Clearinghouse, ELD, IFTA and IRP
How the process works
- We collect your business details: legal name, EIN, address and equipment
- You create and verify your Login.gov account, which FMCSA requires
- We prepare your Motus application and you pay the $300 FMCSA fee
- Your insurer files proof of insurance and your BOC-3 is filed
- FMCSA reviews your application, and your authority becomes active
